Where Is Earth Located?
Earth resides in a galaxy we call the Milky Way, a sprawling collection of hundreds of billions of stars shaped like a swirling disk. Our solar system is located in one of the galaxy's spiral arms, known as the Orion Arm, approximately 27,000 light-years from the galactic center.

Within the solar system, Earth is the third planet from the Sun, a yellow dwarf star that serves as the central energy source for life on our planet. The other planets in our system include Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, along with a host of moons, asteroids, and comets.

Earth's Size and Composition
Earth is relatively small in cosmic terms but teeming with life and diversity. Its diameter measures approximately 12,742 kilometers (7,918 miles), making it the fifth-largest planet in our solar system. It has a surface area of about 510 million square kilometers, 71% of which is covered by water.

The planet is a rocky terrestrial body, with a dense iron-nickel core surrounded by layers of silicate rock and a dynamic crust. Earth's atmosphere, a mixture of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), and trace gases, protects us from harmful solar radiation and supports the complex ecosystems that thrive here.

A Haven for Life
One of Earth's most remarkable features is its ability to support so many forms of life. Its temperature range, magnetic field, liquid water, and atmosphere combine to create an environment where millions of species, including humans, coexist.
